Welcome to Texas!

My dear friend from college, Paige, and her cute family came to visit all the way from Florida last weekend. They were on their way to SanAntonio for business and made a quick 24 hour stop here. Here we are with our little ones.

Oh they are going to be great friends! I was about to say they could be pen pals, but I guess that is a little ancient. They could be Twitter friends or Facebook friends or whatever new Web 2.0 idea comes up next.

My Father-In-Law Will Be Proud!

I made a late night trip to Wal-Mart tonight for groceries and I actually bought 14 generic items. I couldn't resist them when so many generic items were almost half the price of the name brand item! Bryan and his sisters swear that when they were growing up, their dad would refill the name brand Cheerios box and name brand PopTart box with generic Cheerios and generic PopTarts. He tried his best to outsmart those stinkers! Isn't that funny?! I almost bought generic ketchup, but I thought that might be taking this generic frenzy a little too far! At least for tonight. Maybe next time the generic ketchup will be well worth saving my dollar. It was a giant leap for me to buy generic stewed tomatoes. So, Paul, are you proud?

The bet is ON!

Okay, so first I have to tell you about my summer project that went totally wrong. We have lived in this house for 5 years and I started thinking about how dusty my curtains must be. So, I decided to take them down and wash them...bad idea. I started to unscrew the curtain rod above the sliding glass door and dropped the end of the curtain rod. It bounced on the wood floor and hit the glass in the door. Yep. It broke the glass. Bryan was not at home and I just knew I would be in trouble. I called him to tell him about it before he got home in hopes that he could blow off some steam before entering our house again. Sure enough. He was very kind to me when he got home. I just got a small, gentle lecture about how I probably should have waited til he got home to take down the curtain rod and maybe I should just slow down so that these kind of accidents don't happen. Yada. Yada. Yada.

Well, it gets worse. I washed the curtains and hung them back up. They had shrunk 7 STINKIN' INCHES!!! So, now, not only do we have to get a new door, but we needed new curtains.

Thank goodness I have my friend, Jill. She is the best bargain shopper ever and we found new curtains for only $7 a panel. That was a steal and I got big props from Bryan for buying inexpensive curtains.

Still waiting on a new door. For now, it just has bright orange duck tape on the cracks. (see the lovely picture above.)

Okay, so what bet am I talking about in the title of this blog post? Well, the curtain rod above the door was moved one time and there are still these huge white spackling (not sure how to spell that) spots where we filled in the holes. We don't have paint to match the living room/kitchen so we can't just patch the holes with paint. The whole room will need to be painted. So, I made a bet with Bryan. If he drinks one coke (soda) before January 1st, then he has to repaint my kitchen and living room! I thought he would have already failed but he is actually holding to it! However, if you see him, don't hesitate to offer him a Dr.Pepper...those are his fave! I just might get my living room and kitchen repainted after 5 years.

We have been spending many hours at the mall, in the house, and in the pool...trying to keep cool in this 103 degree Texas Summer. Hooray for air conditioning! My mom likes to remind me that she didn't have air conditioning in her house to get ready for her wedding 35 years ago. My parents got married in July, in Georgia. I would have been one sweaty, frizzy haired, grumpy bride! Again, hooray for air conditioning!

Use your inside voice, Nathan. :)

This is a short clip of what my Nathan does best...TALK! This kid has some lungs! He totally cracks us up. I'm sure we will have to have many conversations about indside and outside voices. Maybe I should start praying for his kindergarten teacher now. Ha!

Dear Summer, Please stay forever!

One of the best perks to being a teacher is SUMMER VACATION! Bryan and I both get to stay home with our boys in June and July. It is so much fun! This is what we've been up to at our house...

We put together their "Jumparoo." They love it! It's like Six Flags for a 5 month old. Their legs are still a little short for it so I had to put a big fat cookbook under their feet. Short legs just like their Mama!

Jordan has started to tripod. What a big boy! Nathan still just falls over...hilarious. He'll get the hang of it soon.

Don't ya love this smile?! Oh, little sweet Nathan can just melt my heart! Nathan's favorite thing to do right now is "talk." He just chattered away with Granny the other night.

Daddy has been reading LOTS of books! Right now, the boys like anything that rhymes. I actually have several of their favorites memorized..."You're my little Lovebug, my cuddly kangaroo, my funny bunny, sweet as honey, all of this is true. You're my punkin' wunkin,' my peaches and my pie, my bread and butter, peanut butter, apple of my eye..."

Nathan and Jordan have both mastered the art of drinking their bottles with their "Milk Maids." Thank goodness! This makes bottle time so easy when I am the only one at home. Oh, and many thanks to Aunt Emily for gifting us with these before the babies were born. Amber, you have to get some of these.

Bryan just came home with a candy surprise for me from Walgreens (the drugstore with the best candy aisle ever)...a whole package of red and pink Starbursts! Who doesn't pick around the yellow and orange Starbursts?! This is the best idea from a candy company yet!
