Memom

My sweet Memom passed away in October.  She was a beautuful lady with a beautiful soul.  She was generous, caring, a talented singer, a cook, a comforter, a piano player...and so much more.  She would sit up with us on summer nights and tell us all sorts of stories from past times.  Memom made the best biscuits and rolls that have ever met your mouth.  They were heavenly.  The big boys and I just used her tea-cake recipe the other day to make some cookies.  I got a little teary eyed when I pulled out that recipe.  Memom loved Jesus and she loved to worship Him through songs.  She knew how to praise Jesus!  She loved my Grandaddy and their love is such an outstanding legacy for our family.  She was still smitten with him until the Lord called him home.  My most favorite thing about Memom is that she loved well.  She always welcomed people into her home.  She loved to feed people.  She loved to visit people and she was always bearing a gift on that visit.  She loved her family, her church, her town, her Jesus.  She loved well.  At her visitation, two brothers came to visit our family.  These brothers were African American.  That matters only because the story they told me and my dad was that Ms.Mary Ella was so kind to them because she always invited them to eat at her table.  You see, that was in the 1960s and 70s...in the deep south. Memom didn't care what color anyone's skin was.  She loved so well. She loved to feed people at her table.  I came back to Texas after her funeral with a new challenge for our family to love well.  Thanks to Memom for the inspiration.

This was Memom and Grandad's wedding day in February 1949. Just post WW2.  My Grandad had just returned from his time of duty with a Purple Heart...such a great generation right there.

Found this note on the inside of Memom's bible when we were sorting through some of her belongings.

"Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans." So true.

This is the record of family deaths from 1961 - 2004 that she kept in her Bible. I want to save this picture of these great family names...such strong people that laid a foundation for our family.

This was a little surprise treasure we found in Memom's Bible.  It's a thank you note that my mom wrote Memom and Grandad after their wedding in 1973.  So sweet. :)

Memom's pride and joy--her two sons.  Uncle Larry and Daddy

Funerals are bittersweet times.  We celebrated that Memom was healthy and alive with Jesus but we mourned her loss.  She would have loved this picture.  Cousin love...

We sang this at her funeral..."Oh Victory in Jesus!" We are so grateful for that redeeming blood.

Until we see you again Memom...
